Coffee Shop - Julio
171 Miller St
Fitzroy North VIC 3068 Australia
A macrame owl, decorative ceramics and bowls of raw sugar take you back to 1971, when Paul Simon penned Me and Julio Down by the School Yard – and inspired the name of this backstreet corner cafe, sited opposite a primary school. The former milkbar has been transformed into a light-filled if somewhat austere cafe serving organic food, drink and coffee – ideal for catch-ups after school drop-off. Service can be a little listless but there are no shortcuts with the coffee. A mouth-watering aroma heralds the creation of an espresso with a long, fruity aftertaste, while the hiss of the hardworking La Marzocco’s steam wand signals the arrival of a caffe latte of good temperature, with richly textured milk and a chocolate finish.
